Abstract
Benign fibrous histiocytoma is a mesenchymal tumor described as a benign neoplasm composed of fibroblasts and histiocytes originating from cutaneous and non-cutaneous tissues. The oral and maxillofacial region is a rare location for this entity; in the mouth it can affect the vestibular mucosa, rarely the jaw and tongue. The objective of this work is to present a case of a patient who came for an injury to the tongue, with changes in the surface of the mucosa and maintained pain as the main symptom. Exeresis was performed with a safety margin of the injury and it was confirmed the diagnosis of benign fibrous histiocytoma by histopathological study. The patient progressed for a year and during that period no signs and symptoms suggestive of tumor recurrence were observed.
