Abstract
Treatment of allergic rhinitis in pregnant women is jeopardized by the specialist’s reticence to use drugs that could affect fetal development. This dilemma is particularly acute during the first months of pregnancy. However, the symptoms persistence and the disturbances caused by allergic rhinitis pose a management challenge to the physician: Treating the patient without harming the developing child. The FDA has classified the prescription drugs that could be used in such a case, and a meta-analysis of published studies in pregnant women backs the prescription of the drugs here recommended. In addition, it is also possible to perform some surgical procedures during pregnancy, without posing a risk to either the mother or the fetus.
